I’m a retail specialist with over 20 years experience both as a retailer and manufacturer. I’m passionate about developing and landing innovative solutions in stores and with suppliers to advance the traditional retail format into one that is fit for an ever changing landscape.

As a result I’m now the founder of three separate start-ups serving different sectors, partnering with specialists in each field such as James Timpson, and more recently Dominic Burch.

Having lead format development teams, and landed concept stores across convenience petrol forecourts, small stores and Asda’s pilot large stores, I now advise retailers and suppliers alike on what it takes to be successful. My consultancy and strategic direction is underpinned with frontline experience leading space, range and layout teams, managing logistics and operating factories. I always bring a 360 degree view to any challenge.

My approach is known for being creative and innovative but very much grounded in the realities and constraints of operating costs and return on investment. Since leaving Asda in 2013 I have worked with various retailers, manufacturers and landlords on identifying opportunities, developing concepts, and implementing solutions. This has involved a combination of manufacturing bespoke, innovative modular structures and working closely with brands and landlords on strategies for entry and growth through a manufacturing company and a strategy company.

I’m a no nonsense strategic communications professional, with 20 years’ experience managing campaigns for leading brands in the UK and internationally.

In addition to public relations and strategic communications, I have a personal passion for social media, and help companies define their strategy, up-skill their in-house teams and recruit talent. I also provide ecommerce consultancy, general retail consultancy, business management, coaching and mentoring.

While working for Asda I managed its corporate reputation team and press office, overseeing multiple aspects including corporate and financial reporting, consumer PR for all of Asda’s business, CSR and community, agriculture, as well as defining its social media strategy. Most recently at senior director level (2014-2016) I managed Asda Media Partnerships, overseeing multiple branded media campaigns both across Asda’s chain of supermarkets, and on its key ecommerce and content-based websites.

Since leaving Asda and setting up my own consultancy Why Social, I’ve been fortunate to work for a range of great consumer brands including Superdry, Betsafe, and Accolade Wines (Echo Falls, Hardys, Kumala), as well as helping B2B clients like NSF International, G4S, and Sun Branding Solutions.
